Hello YSSS!

After really pushing myself to finish embroidering my Christmas ornaments (and purchasing this year’s new set) I’ve taken a break back to my much loved comfort planet of knitting. I’ve been trying to work on wips because I want to have a cleanish slate for the Stephen West MKAL. I will be headed to Amsterdam again as a groupie with the KC Symphony and will obviously have to check out the new store location and get some options for the mkal!

A couple of years ago Commander Em taught us about solar prints. My son made a library bag that summer because Em inspired us and this summer he requested to paint another canvas bag. We invited some neighbors over to celebrate the end of summer and use the bright sun to make our prints. My son desired construction trucks, so I printed out simple shaped ones on white paper and it turned out better than I expected! The details that printed in black actually faded the color more and showed up in the print after I had warned him they probably wouldn’t! Another friend did a unicorn and the same thing happened- I love the happy accidents and how you don’t know exactly how it will turn out each time. While we didn’t make the bags we manipulated the textile so maybe solar printing can be a moon circling another planet that is possibly close to the sun!

After returning from the dark side of the moon, I am now able to communicate again. This week, I travelled to the crochet planet. The progress on the planet is swift and I hope to deliver my findings to Mission Control soon.

This was a week of completed research! I finished my crochet blanket, I included a picture of it folded bc it’s so big. I also finished my Lyme Vest. My new wip is a Widow’s Bay themed set. The first design is a pair of gloves dedicated to Patrica’s cocktail party. I forgot how fast DK weight works up!

Looking forward to new projects beginning but also very proud of the works that are finished!

Mission Control: My excursion to Sleeve Island was delayed a week, but I feel better prepared for the trip. I've gained ground on the body of a sweater, including a ribbed hem and all that's left is binding off. I expect smooth sailing ahead and plan to depart for the island within the next day or two. If all continues as planned, I will complete my mission on Planet Knitting before returning to the Yarn Social Space Station at the end of the month!

This week I took a side mission to Planet Quilting. One of my favorite quilts has been in need of a new binding, so I gathered a fabric that I liked, made approximately one billion yards of bias binding and successfully attached it to the quilt without encountering any setbacks, which is a rarity for me on this planet.

And while I was on planet I thought I might as well go ahead and finish up an English Paper Piecing research project I started at the beginning of the travel season. I machine quilted the small top that I had hand stitched and then modified it into a small zipped pouch. I encountered many bumps in this excursion that I will learn from next time, but all in all, I am pleased with the results.

Star date report 20260816

Thanks to a design consult with the talented Em at the Space Station this week, my boredom infestation of last week has been overcome. I now am looking forward to seeing the color change on my Hitchhiker scarf. I reached the first row just tonight!

I’ve also been meaning to acknowledge an error in an earlier report by me. I have checked my references and it wasn’t the dolphins who gave the answer of 42 to the ultimate question; it was the supercomputer. Wanted to correct my prior statements for the record!

Double knit scarf is back in progress! Some of my new yarn arrived this week so I got to work winding it into cakes and casting on. I really love the new colors I picked and am finding this new yarn significantly easier to work with.

I'm only about two rows in but I'm excited to start making some more progress

20260816 log: The amount of yarn remaining in cake #1 was sorely underestimated. The halfway point of the corner to corner crochet blanket was not reached, but good progress was made. Just under 50g remain. I will stay on Planet Crochet another week.

I’m sending much delayed news of research at the sock colony, unfortunately progress on the second expedition stalled dramatically on the foot plains. This trip has also encountered some holes in the landscape this time that were not present before. Our rover is now onto heel mountain, so hopefully I will return with the completed survey results shortly.

In the meantime, some research has been occurring on planet cross stitch. A gift was completed for the celebration of the captain of my mother ship’s yearly planetary cycle depicting her favorite local wildlife. Another survey of a mythical creature was also finished while the research on planet knitting was stalled.
