In Shetland Shades: Stories in Wool, celebrated knitwear designer Gudrun Johnston takes us to her Shetland roots and the rich knitting traditions of the islands.
Inspired by Shetland’s rugged landscapes and extraordinary palette of natural shades, the book explores color in many forms, from traditional Fair Isle and color blocking to mosaic knitting and marling. With a dozen knitting patterns, Gudrun brings her distinctive eye for color and contemporary design to the traditions that have shaped her work.
Shetland Shades: Stories in Wool focuses on richly hued vests, complemented by a selection of beautiful hats and scarves. The vests feature versatile and engaging constructions that make beautiful layering pieces for any outfit.
Color is at the heart of the collection; Gudrun draws from the many shades found in Shetland’s rugged landscapes and translates them into thoughtful and inspiring combinations.
Beyond the patterns, Gudrun’s personal essays offer a deeper look into her creative process and Shetland’s knitting heritage.
Shipping & Returns
We currently only ship to the US, via USPS. Rates are based on pre-tax order totals:
- up to $30: $7 for Ground Advantage or $10.50 for Priority Mail
- $30.01 to $199.99: $10.50 for Priority Mail
- $200 and up: free for Priority Mail
You have 60 days after receiving your item to request a return of eligible items. Your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
YARN: Unused yarn in its original condition may be returned. Yarn that has been used or wound from a skein cannot be returned.
TOOLS; PATTERNS; BOOKS & MAGAZINES: These items cannot be returned but may be replaced within 30 days of receipt if defective.
EVERYTHING ELSE: Anything that isn’t yarn, a tool, a pattern, a book, or a magazine may be returned for store credit if purchased at full price, is unused, and is accompanied by a receipt. If it looks like it has been used, it cannot be returned.
