Greetings from Planet Cross Stitch!

It’s been many years since I’ve explored the terrain and have found much has changed! I’m delighted by the new designs I’ve discovered and already have plans to return to the planet a few times this summer! After dusting off my exploration supplies, I stopped at the space station to pick up the last thing I needed and took off for my destination. Upon dropping out of warp I was so in awe of the view I decided to capture the scene. The planet has a very calming atmosphere and I’m greatly enjoying my time here! Receiving and reading everyone’s transmissions was so fun, I can’t wait to see where the adventure takes everyone!

I've found an unknown planet that interests me. I have been weaving with a rigid heddle for a few years but this summer I want to weave cloth to make a tote and also weave bands for the tote handles on my rigid heddle. I have warped the loom and have started weaving the cloth. This is a great stash buster and I can mix any colors I have.

For my first exploration into the Fiber Universe, I landed on a Planet I've otherwise resisted visiting- the Knitting Planet. I have been learning the local ways of "knitting" and "purling" through the help of a guide book titled "Knit How" annnnd some trial and error to understand how locals hold the yarn.

My first dive was into two square swatch-like panels that I eventually sewed on 3 sides to make a little dice pouch! My second foray has me heading into the unknown to discover if I will succeed with a shawl or land among the Bandanas I am looking forward to learning more through this latest dive and sharing my findings!

Greetings from Fiber Processing Planet! The last round of fleece finally dried in spite of the humidity, and we had the opportunity to scour 3 more pounds of wool. I was observed by a friendly canine who kept me company during this work. I switched from flicking wool to combing and carding other samples. I carded another 50g of Polwarth/Alpaca/Silk and have combed over 200g of wool over the past week. While I admit I could probably get more processed if I stuck to one project, having the change of color and prep style has been rewarding as I make progress across three. The residents here are starting to talk more about this Tour de Fleece celebration, and have encouraged me to take day trips to Spinning Planet over the coming weeks to ensure I am fully prepared to participate. I am looking forward to it!

Major Tom (aka Laura) to Ground Control/Space Station:

This week I was exploring the Knitting planet and ran across a user manual for an item perfect for this voyage. It was titled “Orbit” and I’ve been constructing it this week at warp speed for me, much to my satisfaction! I started it last Friday and am almost to the last lace section. I’ve also already gathered more materials to make more Orbit projects with different inputs to see the effects on the outputs. I will be sure to include the updates on these experiments in future reports. |

I also used a teleportation device to briefly visit the Crochet planet where I put in two rows on my Luna Fade project (also appropriately named!) before teleporting back to Knitting for some more Orbit work. I am new to crochet and not as fast at it so it does not give me the pleasure knitting does, and we all know summer is all about pleasure for space travelers, especially if one has a towel.

Just reached Tooth 20 of 41 on the Hitchhiker!! I'm so grateful I booked this excursion through the travel agency. By count, I'm almost halfway through the project, but the rows are getting longer as I spend more days on Planet Knitting, so I have many more hours to go!

MISSION LOG: DEEP SPACE TRANSIT TO CROCHET PLANET
STATUS: Active / Post-Landing

We have successfully broken free from the heavy gravity well of Knit World. All ship systems are performing within optimal parameters. The newly installed ribbed-knit hull shielding is holding perfectly against cosmic friction; its interlocking loops provide maximum elasticity against space debris.

The interior remains exceptionally warm and insulated due to the crew's unauthorized sweater project. Engine acoustics are heavily muffled by the wool composite, leaving the flight deck completely silent. We set coordinates directly toward the Crochet Planet system, and smooth propulsion burns kept the ship steady throughout transit.

Touchdown status is officially complete. The ship achieved a soft landing on a vast plain of plush, moss-stitch meadows. The landing gear suffered zero impact damage thanks to the incredible shock absorption of the planet's fiber crust.

We have initiated a critical fabrication project in the cargo bay. Visual parameters are directly inspired by the Sandworm from Beetlejuice. This bulky containment vessel is classified as highly critical for long-term laundry storage during the upcoming deep-space voyage, and we must finish it on a tight schedule.

The thick, zero-stretch material requires immense pulling force, and my elbow is experiencing acute fatigue from the strain. The medical bay has mandated localized rest cycles to prevent injury. To manage this physical strain and meet mission deadlines, I have implemented a strategic dual-project workflow, alternating between two distinct textile objectives:

- Objective Alpha: The Beetlejuice Sandworm laundry hamper.
- Objective Beta: A lightweight T-shirt (a personal knitting project from Knit World). This allows my joints to recover while maintaining productivity.

The crew has established a strict operational deadline: fabrication of the Beetlejuice-inspired laundry vessel must be completed by Sunday. The countdown is ticking, but the Sandworm will be tamed.

UPDATE: The Sandworm containment vessel has been breached. It has been officially commandeered by the feline crew members. The high-contrast black and white stripes triggered an immediate nesting instinct, and the cats have claimed the thick T-shirt yarn structure as their primary orbital base.

I spent this week happily cataloging more of the beautiful Fruit Doves here on Planet Cross Stitch. However, I did need to make quick flight to the Space Station to preemptively restock on DMC 166, as there is just so much more vibrant green here than I anticipated! It is so verdant here, in fact, I almost missed spotting this beauty in the southeastern most corner of the forest.

While scouting out the southwest quadrant of the forest, I did see the quickest flash of fuchsia flying near the papaya grove, so I think I’ll set up camp there this week to see if I can get a better look.

Though I am a regular visitor to Planet Knitting, I am embarking on a deeper exploration of the mysterious region Sock before traveling away from familiar soil. I am happy to report that I have arrived at Sock and am now relying on my prior research of the local geography and navigation strategies to investigate this place. In preparation for this mission, I have also gathered data from friends and family back on the home planet for the return of samples meeting their needed specifications.

This journey is already proving fruitful, as objectives Cast On and Ribbing for the beginning stage of this research has already begun! I plan to enjoy my time here as I make preparations for research on more distant planets.

While visiting planet Knitting, I’ve recently been immersed in some wonderful knitting projects for the "knit-worthy" people in my life. I just finished Andrea Mowry’s “Baubles” for my Aunt Dawn, using yarn she picked out herself during a visit to the Yarn Social Space Station in KC.

Now, I am working on a birthday gift for my sister-in-law, Noelle. Last year, I made her the “Wanderers Slippers” by Andrea Mowry, which she uses and appreciates constantly.

Although I am already a month late for her birthday this year, I’ve set a deadline for the beginning of July when the whole family is getting together. She requested a poncho, scarf, or wrap, so I decided on the “Everyway Shawl” (another Andrea Mowry pattern- do I have a type!?) It should be perfect for the cold Minnesota winters.

I’m enjoying how quickly it knits up in Aran weight, especially since I’ll be starting a guided tour to planet Embroidery next week and expect to be a bit distracted!

I was able to bind off the object and the only thing that remains is to stretch it on my blocking mats. As I was leaving the planet, I noticed a humanoid creature lurking in the bushes. I will stay on this planet a little longer to see what it evolves into.

Log 061426. Progress on planet Knitting has been made despite side trips on planet Genealogy, planet Summer Reading Program, and planet Graduation Party. Unfortunately we’ll be visiting planet Frog temporarily as knitting gauge has changed since the UFO project first initiated. Regardless, prior to this discovery, relearning of cabling without cable needle was successful.

Plotting has already begun for future planetary explorations on planet Crochet, planet Embroidery (occurring at the space station), and planet Rigid Heddle Weaving.

I began my week on Spinning, as I did last week, but what was supposed to be a quick evening trip to Cross-Stitch- barely worth noting until I was able to make my planned trip to this planet later in my voyage- turned into an unexpected stay when my teleported broke down. It appears I will remain on Cross-Stitch until I am able to return to Spinning, though I hope to make it back for the renown Tour de Fleece celebration that occurs there in July.

I spent most of this week on planet Knitting where I discovered a new species! Overall seems to be friendly, yet has a mischievous streak. My WIP was stolen quite a few times!

While on planet knitting, I was inspired to initiate an experiment, so I cast on socks TAAT for the first time. To maximize the variables, I chose to do color work and pull from the center AND exterior, which may be slightly too chaotic even for me, but I will not abandon ship!
