A few days ago I landed on Planet Cross Stitch to continue my research on a species of bird that dines exclusively on fruits. Little is known about these beautiful birds, but they are frequently regarded as “shy”. So far, I’ve been lucky to capture a couple of their likenesses in the traditional method of documentation this planet is named for.

I'm currently exploring an unknown planet in the weaving galaxy - tablet weaving! Learning to read patterns and warp my loom has gone smoothly so far with the help of my handy Card Weaving guide. I'm currently trying to figure out how to achieve smooth edges - I'm not sure if it is a skill issue or pattern issue yet. I think I'm slowly getting smoother edges by pulling a little tighter than I think I need to each round. I will continue exploring and report back!

Greetings!
This week I have spent time planning and prepping for my voyage to the outer limits of the Fiber Galaxy. As of now, the ship will leave this afternoon with a course set for planet Spinning (planeta pro rotatoribus). While there I will be spinning a scrumptious 100% Rambouillet braid by Watercolor Wools. I may also acquire a few new braids while visiting this planet in preparation for the Tour de Fleece in July.

My celestial voyage starts with my most familiar planet - Planet Knitting!
I have spent much time exploring the Sophie Scarf phenomenon; I just completed my 7th orbit around Sophie and have 2 more WIPs. I am very appreciative of the stellar YS Mission Control crew (Em, Trish, Ariel) for guidance on i-cord edge navigation!
I have learned that the Sophie pattern is versatile and adaptable to different yarn weights and needle sizes. Malabrigo Rasta is a favorite choice as well as the lofty soft undyed alpaca yarn Cascade Duo, and colorful Hedghog and Kim Dyes Yarn merinos.
It’ll difficult to leave the comfort of Planet Knitting, but I must voyage on to more unexplored worlds in the fiber universe!

I have landed on an unfamiliar planet on the edge of the Fiber Arts Universe. Early data suggests the land is inhabitable despite the occasional dust storm. Fleece is plentiful and processing wool is the primary pasttime of the residents. Although the air was initially pungent, I have acclimated and generally do not notice it anymore. I have been informed that there is a friendly alliance with Spinning Planet; the two get along quite famously and trade between both is practically frictionless. There is even a high speed rail connection that I plan to take advantage of, permitting me to travel speedily between both planets with ease.

I have agreed to pay for my lodgings by way of small jobs planetside. So far this week, I have scoured (washed) approximately 5.5 Earth pounds of raw wool. While the community waits for this wool to dry, they have given me the task of teasing apart (flicking) wool locks that need to be blended with more luxurious fibers - alpaca and silk. The work is gratifying though I am slower at this process than I was anticipating. I have been informed that a grand, nearly month-long celebration between this and Spinning Planet is to happen in a matter of weeks called "Tour de Fleece." I will end this message here to return to work. I hope that my efforts here contribute to the community's goals and my personal sense of accomplishment.

This week I explored deconstruction of sweaters to reclaim the yarn. The sweaters are 100% cashmere. The pink is helix knit, so is a pain to deconstruct. I only got a sleeve done this week, and then took off the neck of the white one. It appears the white is twice as thick as the pink. I will have to spin them together to get fingering weight.

Mayday. The landing pod has suffered a catastrophic crash landing on Sleeves Island. The spacecraft sustained severe hull trauma during entry and is currently entirely non-operational.
I have relocated the primary ship wreckage to the Cuff Point docking facility. To make the vessel spaceworthy again, I must manually reconstruct the missing structural shielding. I am harvesting local fibrous materials to knit and weave replacement hull panels directly into the shattered frame.
Progress is painfully slow. Knitting the thruster sleeves by hand takes massive amounts of time.
Worse, I am now playing a dangerous game of yarn chicken. I am down to my very last skein of Joann salvage fiber. Every stitch counts. If this final skein runs out before the thruster sleeve is finished, the hull will fail containment.
Despite the slow fabric construction and the looming deficit, my target departure date remains this coming Sunday, June 7. I will initiate final pre-launch sequences immediately after the final weave to blast off from this island.

Knitting will be my home base for the travel season and I started work on a cardigan that will likely take most of the season. I’ve been eyeing the Gaon Cardigan by Soomin Ahn and this felt like an excellent excuse to finally cast on. I’ve been holding onto some lovely yarn by Teal Torch Knits, that turned out to be perfect for this cardigan. The best part? It’s UV reflective!
I also stopped by the travel agency to pick up some supplies for visits to Spinning and Needle Felting. I also started reading a lovely guidebook to Spinning, “Respect the Spindle”, by Abby Franquemot. So glad I picked this up before starting. It’s walks through the science and history behind Spinning. Franquemot shares some practical advice I’ve already found useful as I went ahead and took a quick day trip to Spinning to wrap up the week. It’s a lovely planet, if slightly overwhelming, and I’m excited to spend some time here this summer!

This week’s journey took us to the planet Knitting. Our travel took us to Ozetta’s basin, where we found the Harvest Tee. Our exploration was methodical — rounds and rounds of Stockinette. We finished a first bushel of provisions — a mix of wool, cotton and linen — and began a second.
One of the ship’s co-pilots was regularly inspecting the quality of the exploration.

My time here has been magical despite having to make a pit stop because my drive band broke. While on the planet, I spun four skeins of a two ply yarn. I started with a single made from Kim Dyes Yarn BFL/Tussah silk in City Rainbow. The singles were then plied with Unicorn Tears. My favorite part of this yarn was watching the sequins shine as whirled around on the flyer.

As I arrived on the Planet of Unraveled Sweaters, and parked my ship at the Cardboard Cafe Space Station, a Left Arm had already formed into a yarn cake.
